Common questions

Questions? I’d rather you ask.

What exactly is Direct Primary Care?

It’s a return to how primary care should work. You pay a flat monthly membership directly to the practice — no copays, no surprise bills — and in exchange you get a doctor who actually has time for you: longer visits, same-day or next-day appointments, and my direct contact information. No insurance company or far away call center sits between us.

Do I still need health insurance?

Yes — I recommend keeping coverage for emergencies, hospital care, and rare but expensive medical illnesses that might come up. Think of DPC membership as covering your everyday care, and insurance as covering the big stuff. Many members pair Ridgeview with a high-deductible or catastrophic plan or with a healthshare.

Why did you leave the traditional system?

After 12 years in an insurance-based academic practice, I grew tired of being unavailable to my patients — 3-to-4-month wait times, call centers giving them wrong information, and bloated charges I had no control over. Direct Primary Care lets me get back to what drew me to medicine in the first place: long-term relationships with patients and their families.

Is sports medicine really included in my DPC membership?

Yes. Sports medicine consults are part of your membership — no referral, no extra visit fee. I’ve treated professional and Olympic athletes, high school teams, weekend warriors, and patients with acute or chronic pain from all walks of life. Some procedures have additional costs, but we keep them well below what my patients had to pay in the big system.

What if I just want a sports medicine consult without DPC?

No problem! Sports consults and procedures are available to patients on a fee-for-service basis for those who are not DPC members of Ridgeview. After the visit, patients are given an invoice that contains codes in case they would like to submit to insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. See the sports medicine page for price lists.

How quickly can I actually be seen?

Same day or the next business day for most needs — we’re closed weekends and holidays. And when something comes up after hours, you can reach me directly — not an answering service.

What does membership cost?

$99 a month for individuals and $179 for families (two adults) at our founding member rates, with children up to age 26 at $39 each. Single parents can sign up as an individual at $99 plus $39 per child. Labs and medications are priced at or near wholesale, and I’ll always tell you what something costs before we do it. And if you’re 100 or older — $1 a month when joining with an active adult family member. You’ve earned it.
