Joint Injections in Wheat Ridge, CO

An injection can calm a flare, buy time for rehab to work, or treat a tendon or joint that has not responded to other care. The right injection depends on the diagnosis, so every injection at Ridgeview Direct Care follows an evaluation with Dr. Christopher Kroner, who explains the options, the evidence and the cost before anything is done.

Corticosteroid (cortisone) injections

Corticosteroid injections reduce inflammation and often ease pain within a few days. They are commonly used for arthritic joints, bursitis, frozen shoulder, trigger finger and some nerve problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome. Relief typically lasts weeks to a few months. Because repeated injections can affect cartilage and tendons, the number given into the same area is generally limited.

Hyaluronic acid (viscosupplementation)

Hyaluronic acid injections add a gel-like fluid to an arthritic joint, most often the knee. Some people with mild to moderate knee arthritis get months of improvement, while others notice little change, so it is usually considered after other treatments. Dr. Kroner will discuss whether you are likely to benefit and what the medication costs.

Trigger point injections

Trigger point injections treat tight, tender knots in muscle that cause local and referred pain. They are used alongside stretching, strengthening and workload changes for chronic myofascial pain, and Ridgeview offers a package for patients who need a series over the year.

PRP injections

Platelet-rich plasma uses a concentrate of your own platelets to support healing in selected tendon, ligament and joint problems. Improvement builds more slowly than with cortisone, but can last longer for some conditions. See PRP injections for the evidence by body part.

Ultrasound guidance

When precise placement matters, Dr. Kroner uses in-office ultrasound to guide the needle into the joint, tendon sheath or bursa. Guidance can make an injection more accurate and is standard for PRP.

Joint injection questions

How long does a cortisone shot last?

Relief commonly lasts from several weeks to a few months, depending on the joint and the condition. It works best combined with rehab that addresses the cause.

How many cortisone injections can I have?

It depends on the area treated, but repeated injections into the same joint or tendon are usually limited to a few per year. Dr. Kroner tracks this with you.

Do I need to be a member to get an injection?

No. Injections are available to members and non-members; members pay lower prices.
